Several media sources including Pressconnects and WBNG TV report that an arrest has been made in connection with the death of 44 year-old Walter Slater whose body was found near a residence at 204 Oak Street in Binghamton on June 30th.  At the time police labeled the death "suspicious".

Yesterday police report that 34 year-old Nelson Romero was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Slater death.  Police believe Romero stabbed Slater in the chest causing his death.

Police have been searching for the possible murder weapon. Police divers have been spotted in the Chenango River searching for any clues that might tie Romero with the death.

At a Thursday arraignment Romero entered a not guilty plea and was remanded to the Broome County Jail.
