Vestal police believe four men were involved in a home invasion robbery in a quiet neighborhood.

Authorities say a young woman was surprised by intruders who entered the house at 4208 Drexel Drive around 1 p.m. August 27.

The woman - who was in her bedroom - initially called her mother to let her know strangers were at the home. She then called her father to alert him.

Three men apparently entered the house through an unlocked door and then kept the woman in the bedroom while they went through the home looking for valuables.

The men are believed to have taken cash and possibly other items from the residence.

Vestal police detective sergeant Christopher Streno said the woman's father arrived at the home just as the men were leaving.

One of the bandits displayed a black handgun and ordered the man to lie down in the driveway.

The men left in a tan or gold car that may have been a Volkswagen or an Audi. Streno said investigators believe the vehicle was driven by a fourth person.

Streno said no shots were fired and no one was hurt in the incident. He described the home invasion as an "extreme rarity" for Vestal.

Members of the state police forensic investigation unit based in Sidney collected evidence at the scene.
