The American Heart Association honored its many volunteers and sponsors who helped raise over $215,000 in the 2015 Southern Tier Heart Walk held in April to help in the fight against heart disease and stroke.  A record 2,500 walkers participated in this year's event.

At an awards recognition and celebration at Terra Cotta in Binghamton a number of businesses, teams and individuals were recognized.  The Volunteer of the Year award was given to Dr. Andrea Wade from SUNY Broome.  Dr. Wade was a vital part of the planning efforts for this year's Southern Tier Heart Walk which was held for the first time at SUNY Broome.

Allison Murphy won the Lifestyle Change Award which is sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.  Allison has made major changes in her life by adding exercise, cutting out fast food and paying closer attention to what she is eating.  She has lost 60 pounds since she initiated these changes.

The American Heart Association Lifetime Champion Award was awarded to Terri Donovan. Terri has been a Heart Association volunteer for 25 years.  She has been a member of the Heart Walk logistics committee, the Heart Ball logistics committee, Heart Walk team captain and a company coordinator for Wear Red Day.
