The Addiction Center of Broome County (ACBC) is getting some money from New York State to help fight the heroin crisis in the region.

State Senator Fred Akshar and Addiction Center Executive Director Carmela Pirich have announced the award of $60,000 dollars to expand the outpatient clinic and rehabilitation programs.

The funds will also facilitate the start of a much-needed detoxification unit, which is expected to be in operation this fall.

Broome County has not had an ambulatory detoxification service for clients since 2010, leaving many people looking outside the area and placed on waiting lists for programs to help them get off drugs before entering long-term rehabilitation programs.
