Tioga County businessman Adam Weitsman hopes to start construction soon on a new sushi restaurant in the village of Owego.

Weitsman said he is planning to develop the sushi bar on a now-vacant parcel at 174 Front Street. The small piece of land, which overlooks the Susquehanna River, is just east of the Court Street bridge.

On Thursday, Weitsman said the restaurant building's design will be compatible with the historic neighboring buildings.

The owner of Owego-based Upstate Shredding said he's owned the parcel for about a decade.

Weitsman said he expected the sushi bar would have seating for about 40 people. He said the restaurant would be housed in a one-story building. He said the still-unnamed Owego business could be operational next summer.

Weitsman now is focused on the development of a Mexican-themed restaurant in Skaneateles. He also recently announced plans to convert the Parlor City Pub on Hawley Street in Binghamton into a sports bar.
