Binghamton City School District can move forward with making repairs to district buildings and upgrading security systems.  A light turnout at the polls for a March 17 referendum resulted in the 417 to 97 vote approval of a $12 million capital improvement plan.

The cost is to be covered through New York State funding and money from the district reserve fund. The upgrades and security improvements would not be added on to the tax levy.

The security improvements, including the addition of cameras and id readers, could be completed this year while the infrastructure renovations are expected to be finished next year.
