Binghamton residents and property owners will be able to seek a share of nearly $1 million in federal pandemic relief funds.

Mayor Richard David says applications for the assistance will be accepted beginning next Monday.

The city has set aside $991,000 in federal aid to provide mortgage, rent and utility assistance to those dealing with hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

David says the funds could help prevent evictions, foreclosures and homelessness.

Binghamton residents who want to apply for assistance may call 211.The aid is expected to be available in mid-September.

The city also is using federal relief funds to help nonprofit organizations and small businesses affected by the pandemic.
