One person has been arrested in connection with an arson fire in Binghamton and more arrests are expected.

Authorities say last month's blaze in a rooming house at 18 Tremont Avenue on the South Side was quickly extinguished.

Detectives say 19-year-old Chante Rivas of Philadelphia has been charged with second-degree arson. She was arrested Tuesday by investigators of the Philadelphia and Binghamton police departments.

Rivas was being held in Philadelphia awaiting extradition to Binghamton.

The blaze was reported around 7:30 a.m. on February 27. Police officers arriving on the scene reported a working fire. It was confined primarily to a mattress in a first-floor bedroom in the rear of the two-story building.

Several people who were in the rooming house were forced outside into the cold. No injuries were reported.

Police say the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are anticipated. Officials provided no details regarding how the fire was started.
