Snow over the weekend again caused a weather-related closure for the re-boot of the holiday Festival of Lights at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton but that means an extension of the season.

The heavy snow forced the display to close early on January 3 after being flooded out at the end of December.

Organizers say, however, the display is going to remain open past its original end date and will continue through January 23rd.

The proceeds from the display benefit a number of charities including veterans’ groups, hunger programs and Spiedie Fest.

Meanwhile, winter weather is being welcomed on Binghamton’s North Side.  Just after Christmas, the City opened a new ice skating rink at Cheri Lindsey Park.

City officials have indicated they also plan to expand the size of the skating rink that was put into place for last winter at Recreation Park on the West side.

Skaters at Cheri Lindsey Park must bring their own skates and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The rink is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
