The driver of a car found in a ditch in Windsor was arrested after he allegedly tried to ingest drugs discovered by sheriff's deputies.

Authorities say 27-year-old Ridge McCollum of Whitney Point was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, McCollum was in the driver's seat of a Cadillac that went off Trim Street early Saturday.

Deputies found a white powdery substance that tested positive for the presence of cocaine. During the investigation, McCollum allegedly placed the material in his mouth and chewed it.

In addition to the felony count, McCollum was charged with DWI, criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstructing governmental administration.
