What Now With Assembly Investigation of Andrew Cuomo?

The public release of hundreds of pages of deposition transcripts in former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment case this week brings renewed attention to the ongoing New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee investigation into that and other misconduct allegations against the Democrat.

While the committee’s work has been dragging on at a snail’s pace for months, the release of the documents this week by the Attorney General’s office is expected to light a fire under the panel to wrap up its investigation. Members are being called back to Albany on Monday, November 15 to review a draft report.

The Judiciary Committee is not only looking into the allegations by ten women that the then-governor made inappropriate comments or even groped them, it is investigating whether Cuomo used public resources like paid staff to work on his multi-million-dollar pandemic response book, whether he fraudulently withheld the true pandemic nursing home death statistics and whether he garnered an environment of bullying in the workplace.

While the Albany County Sheriff has been the first to file criminal charges against the former governor, people familiar with the work of the Assembly Judiciary Committee are not ruling out the possibility of further criminal charges coming from those investigations.
