Governor Andrew Cuomo's political troubles received more national attention during the cold open on NBC's Saturday Night Live.

An impatient-looking Cuomo, played by Pete Davidson, showed up three minutes into a spoof of a Britney Spears talk show, saying "let's get this over with."

Chloe Fineman, portraying Spears, asked "Cuomo" about the controversy surrounding Covid-19 nursing home deaths in New York state. The governor provided a novel explanation for how his administration counted deaths of nursing home patients.

After the host suggested an apology was in order, Davidson-as-Cuomo reluctantly blurts out: "I said I was sorry!"

The "governor" suddenly acts like a bully when the conversation turns to New York City's mayor.

Cuomo is facing intense scrutiny from state and federal investigators as well as lawmakers for issues related to nursing home deaths during the pandemic.

WATCH the Saturday Night Live open from February 20, 2021.
