An alleged theft in Delaware County is pushing home the point that people should secure their prescription medications and properly dispose of ones that are not needed.

Sheriff’s officials say a Walton man is accused of stealing the controlled substance, Clonazepam from a home in the Town.

30-year-old Joseph Croci is charged with petit larceny.

Authorities say often narcotics are taken from the homes of relatives or are stolen to be used illegally or sold.

Nationwide drug take back events are held periodically through the year for people to be able to drop off unused and unwanted prescription and non-prescription medications.

In addition, drop boxes are available at several locations. In Broome County there are drop boxes in the lobby of the Sheriff’s office on Lieutenant VanWinkle Drive in the Town of Dickinson, the Broome County Public Library and the Broome County Office Building in Binghamton.
