The City of Binghamton is celebrating a little-known holiday with a flag raising at city hall.

Saint David’s Day is being marked with the raising of the Welsh Flag.

Traditional festivities include wearing daffodils and leeks and eating traditional Welsh food.

Saint David was born in south west Wales and founded a monastic community where Saint David’s Cathedral now stands.

The date of his death is believed to be March 1, 589.

In the past, celebrations in Wales were countered in England with anti-Welsh demonstrations.
