Vestal Schools Host Heroin Forum

The Vestal School District is hosting its first community forum to talk about the area’s growing heroin epidemic.

The forum is planned for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, January 21.

The scheduled speakers are John Barry from the Southern Tier AIDS Program, the mother of a child suffering from addiction, former District Attorney Gerald Mollen, New York State Police Captain Pat Garey and a recovering addict.

Attendees can fill out question cards with issues to be addressed by panel speakers.

There will be a free pizza dinner with dessert.

Childcare will be provided by students in several leadership and mentorship programs with adult supervision.

The Vestal Parent Teacher Organization, community organizations and legislators provided funding for the program.
