Vestal Police Investigate Death of Binghamton University Student
A Binghamton University student was found dead in his off-campus apartment in Vestal.
Police say they were called to University Plaza on the Vestal Parkway East around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Detective lieutenant Christopher Streno said investigators believe 21-year-old Luke Stempa may have died about a day before his body was discovered in his UClub apartment.
Streno said the cause of death did not appear to be suicide and it did not appear to be suspicious. He said Stempa lived alone in the apartment.
The UClub student apartment complex is one mile east of the Binghamton University Vestal campus.
An autopsy was performed Thursday morning at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. The findings have not yet been released.
Binghamton University issued a statement expressing condolences to Stempa's family and friends. The statement said Stempa was a sophomore.
Counseling services will be made available by the university. Those who wish to speak with someone may contact the Dean of Students Office at 607.777.2804.
