Close to seven dozen people are due to lose their jobs when a Vestal electronics recycling company closes at the end of the year.

Eco International LLC has files a Worker Adjustment and Retraining notice with the New York State Department of labor saying the plant on Stage Road will close and layoffs will begin in November. Eighty-two people are being put out of work.

Eco International has been in the business of recycling, at first glass then electronics, for about 23 years.

Continued pressure from the downturn in the economy has been cited as the reason for the closure.

A Worker Adjustment and Retraining notice has to be filed with the state as an advance warning when a company plans to lay off fifty or more workers.
