Vestal Parkway “A&W” Turning Into Pot Shop
Another closed Broome County A&W restaurant is being converted into a marijuana mart.
Canna Planet - a chain of cannabis dispensaries based in the Hudson Valley - is expected to open its first Binghamton-area store soon.
The weed retail shop will be located where the former A&W/Long John Silver's fast food restaurant had operated for several years. The restaurant closed in June 2024.
Workers started renovations inside the old eatery a few weeks ago. The interior has been completed redesigned to feature new lighting. Several display cases for merchandise already are in place.
No signage has been erected to promote the future business.
The owner of the Canna Planet chain declined to comment about the Vestal location when contacted by WNBF News. The man who is to manage the site has not returned calls seeking information about when the business will open and the planned hours of operation.
Property records show the Vestal site is owned by Manjot Dhillon of Binghamton. He also owns the former A&W restaurant building on Court Street in Binghamton. A cannabis dispensary opened at that site last February.
Like the Binghamton store, the new Vestal shop will have a drive-up window to allow customers to pick up an order they've made online.
Four stores are listed on the Canna Planet website. They are in Wappingers Falls, Monticello, Kingston and Ellenville.
