Upstate New York “Ice” Operation in Binghamton
There have been plenty of "ICE" stories in New York state and around the country in recent weeks but very few have focused on the important business of ice.
The making and efficient distribution of ice has taken on added importance over the last several days as much of upstate New York has been coping with some very hot weather.
Brown Carbonic Sales Company of East Syracuse and its affiliate - Ice Company of Elmira - have been busy producing and delivering much of the ice needed by people and businesses in upstate New York and northeastern Pennsylvania.
Shawn Salle of Brown Carbonic told WNBF News the operation has been very busy. He estimated the company distributed about a half-million pounds of ice last week.
The business supplies ice machines at many convenience stores including Mirabitio and Byrne Dairy locations in upstate New York and some Dandy stores in Pennsylvania.
Salle said his company remotely monitors its freezers at retail locations so they can be restocked quickly.
Although ice is an important part of Brown Carbonic, Salle said the company's beverage business is even bigger. The company makes its own sodas, juices and other beverages.
