United Way raised $1.7 million in their annual community campaign, and 100% of the money raised will be invested into community projects and programs. The rest of the $2.3 million was acquired through non-profit funding opportunities, including the Basic Needs and Strategic Priorities Grant Program, the Capacity Building Grant Program, and the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition Grant Program.
Among the 44 organizations that will receive investment from United Way of Broome County to assist with 70 projects and programs are the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton, Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Family and Children's Counseling Services, The Research Foundation for SUNY at Binghamton and the YMCA of Broome County, showing a wide range of organizations that will benefit various members of the Broome County community.
Executive Director of United Way of Broome County LoriAnne Welch stated "These investments are an important accomplishment and a testament to the incredible generosity of this community; a community which recognizes the importance of ensuring children get off to a strong start and achieve success in school, families have the financial stability that can come with gainful employment, and individuals lead healthy lives."
United Way's Campaign Chair, Sheri Lamoureux, said "It has been an honor to serve our community as the Campaign Chair and fundraise for programs and initiatives that are working towards solutions and long-term change to the pressing issues in our community."
