Shortly after winning reelection to the Senate, Kirsten Gillibrand set up an exploratory committee to look into a possible run for president.  Over the weekend, the Democrat announced in a YouTube video that she is officially in the race.

Gillibrand has spent more than a month traveling around the country after telling late-night T.V. host, Stephen Colbert that she was taking the first step toward an official presidential campaign.

The 53-year-old Albany native is joining the dozen-plus contenders, saying in a campaign video that the nation needs "a leader who makes big, bold, brave choices. Someone who isn't afraid of progress.”

Associate Press reports Gillibrand’s debut speech in Her “Brave Wins” campaign is scheduled for Sunday, March 24 in front of the Trump International Hotel & Tower in New York.
