Two retail cannabis licenses for operations in the city of Binghamton have received state approval.

The Cannabis Control Board on Monday granted 36 conditional adult-use retail dispensary licenses on a provisional basis.

On Point Cannabis Inc. was one of the Binghamton applications to receive approval. The firm's Damien Cornwell declined to comment shortly after the action was announced by the board. He said he wanted to obtain more information before discussing the process of setting up a retail operation.

The other conditional license for the city of Binghamton was granted to William Durham. When contacted Monday afternoon, he said he was "still taking it all in." He indicated he's hoping to open a retail cannabis in Binghamton. He said "that's my dream." He also declined to make a detailed comment until he learns more about what other steps will be needed before making that dream a reality.

In a statement, Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham said the move by the state "starts a multiple-month process of local planning approvals and secondary supplemental applications" to the state Office of Cannabis Management.

Kraham did not make any specific comment on the two Binghamton applicants.

The mayor noted the city has passed local zoning measures in an effort "to maximize the opportunities that adult-use cannabis" could bring in terms of jobs, investment and tax revenue.
