Broome County Sheriff’s officials say two people are being treated for non-life threatening injuries following a crash into a bridge pillar on Interstate 81 near exit 6 in the Town of Chenango.

Deputies were called to the scene at 4:50 this morning.

The responding officer found the 2014 Mazda sedan under the interstate 81 overpass at Castle Creek Road (Route 11).

The Deputy says it appears the vehicle was going south on the interstate when it may have left the road to avoid hitting a deer.  The vehicle entered the center median, became airborne as the median ends and the Route 11 overpass begins, hitting part of a bridge pillar before being stopped by a guard rail.

The two occupants had to be removed by Chenango Fire personnel.

They were taken to Wilson Hospital.

The crash is still under investigation.

Officials say the bridge was not damaged and the road is open.
