Two Dead After Shots Heard and Fire Erupts Inside Binghamton Home
A man and a woman are dead after an apparent domestic dispute at a Binghamton residence.
City police were sent to a single-family home at 56 Howard Avenue on the East Side around 4:15 p.m. Saturday. They were called to investigate a report of shots fired and smoke coming from the house.
A neighbor had reported hearing what sounded like a possible explosion or gunshot from the two-story wood-frame structure.
According to a police department news release: "Upon arrival an active fire was found in the residence along with an adult male and female who had sustained life-threatening injuries."
Firefighters called for two ambulances a few minutes after they arrived at the scene. The two people were transported to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The blaze inside the house was extinguished quickly by firefighters. A section of Howard Avenue between Robinson and East Frederick streets was closed due to police and fire department activity.
Police have not released the names of the man and woman who died.
