Friendly's restaurants on the Vestal Parkway and in the Oakdale Mall are being closed as a major franchise operator sells its holdings.

Kessler Family LLC is selling 35 restaurants to Friendly's Ice Cream LLC in a deal likely to close Wednesday.

Eight underperforming Friendly's units operated by Kessler, including the two in Vestal and Johnson City, will close.

Three Broome County Friendly's locations will remain open. They are on East Main Street in Endicott, Harry L Drive in Johnson City and Upper Front Street in the town of Dickinson.

Several dozen people who work at the two Binghamton-area restaurants which are closing will lose their jobs.
