Geisinger Health Systems is getting a grant from the DeGenstein Foundation to move forward a new study into the possible health effects of natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale.Last August, Geisinger launched a long-term health study in cooperation with Guthrie Health Systems in Sayre, Pennsylvania and Susquehanna Health.

Preliminary results are expected in the next year while the full study is expected to take two decades or more.

The work is the first detailed, comprehensive study into the long-term effects on the health of residents living and working in the natural gas play of the Twin Tiers.
