Binghamton firefighters battled an early-morning vehicle fire in a parking lot at Lourdes Hospital.

The blaze outside the hospital on Riverside Drive was reported at 4:49 a.m. Thursday.

The fire was confined to a truck loaded with shredded paper that was to be recycled. Firefighters initially were advised that the vehicle was parked near the building. The truck was moved away from the structure to a parking lot.

The fire was declared out at 5:23 a.m. Assistant fire chief Mark Whalen said no injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Whalen said the fire marshal's office would investigate the incident.

The blaze caused no disruption in hospital operations.

The truck was operated by Shred-it, a company that provides document destruction services.
