Tournament of Bands and Italian Festival in Binghamton
Today is a Federal holiday meaning most schools, government offices and banks are closed and there is no mail delivery. Some businesses may also be closed, so it is best to call ahead if you are unsure.
The 59th annual Tournament of Bands high school marching band competition in the City of Binghamton takes place starting at 10 a.m., stepping off near the intersection of Main and Arthur Streets, proceeding east into the downtown and finishing in front of the Broome County Courthouse.
Five schools from New York and Pennsylvania are competing for honors in overall execution, color guard and drum major in divisions based on school size.
The annual Italian festival takes place on Water Street following the parade. Food and music will be featured until about 2 p.m.
For motorists, Main and Court Streets will be closed during the parade but open to traffic the rest of the day. Water Street next to Boscov’s is closed between Court and Henry Streets for the festival but access to the Water Street parking garage is still open with access from the Henry Street side.
