Tioga, Chenango, Cortland Named Halloween Storm Disaster Counties
Tioga, Cortland and Chenango Counties are among 18 in New York State in line to get federal funds to pay for recovery from the Halloween storm that caused millions of dollars in flood damage and a death in Herkimer County.
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the disaster Public Assistance Funding had been approved by President Donald Trump.
Funding requests for Erie, Essex, Hamilton, Herkimer and Oneida Counties are still pending.
The Senators from New York say during the Halloween storm, a dozen counties received at least 3 inches of rain and 27 counties were under flood and flash flood warnings.
Winds from the storms were clocked at between 60 and 70 miles per hour in several areas, knocking down trees and power lines and resulting in hundreds of people being evacuated.
Catholic Priest, Father Tom Connery was trapped in his vehicle in one of the flash floods in Herkimer County and swept away.
