The Southern Tier Remembers
Events are planned all over the region to mark the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Among them are the dedication of a new memorial in Owego Sunday, September 11 at noon, an Observance Ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Remembrance Garden at Lower Highland Park in the Town of Union and the United Way’s Annual Day of Caring, which actually takes place all day September 9 with 860 volunteers from 44 area businesses and organizations working on 99 projects at local charitable and non-profit agencies in Broome County.
The Day of Caring began the year after the terror attacks and was launched as a remembrance to those who lost their lives.
The United Way is displaying 3,000 flags on the front lawn of its headquarters at the corner of the Vestal Parkway and Jensen Road as a memorial to the three-thousand lives lost 15 years ago.
