The New York State Department of Transportation is planning to replace the Route 17-C bridge over Cayuta Creek in Waverly.

The D.O.T. is looking to replace the 85 year old span that is currently posted for 17 tons.  The beams and deck were replaced 38 years ago and the deck is currently showing signs of deterioration with cracking and leaking.  The concrete beams are also showing deterioration beyond repair.

Officials say, in spite of that, the bridge is still safe to cross for the posted load and is inspected on a regular basis.

Officials hope to start construction in 2016.
