With the cold temperatures, snow, and no end in sight of winter, for now, our thoughts wander to the upcoming spring and summer months. Well, last least I do, and I can imagine many others do as well.

Our communities come alive with all sorts of activities and entertainment during the warm winter months, including the Dicks Sporting Goods Open and The annual Spiediefest and Balloon Rally which is moving back to its original August dates.

There are many other festivals, fairs, and other fun things to do in the Southern Tier as well. As a matter of fact, a press release through Visit Binghamton has announced the Great Race will have an overnight stop in Binghamton on Sunday, June 19th, 2022.

The Great Race is billed as the world's premiere old car rally. There will be about 130 antique automobiles rolling into town. The Great Race is a nine-day event covering 2300 miles through 19 cities in nine states including New York and Pennsylvania.

The cars and their teams hail from five countries including the United States, Japan, Canada, The U.K., Australia, and Germany. The Great Race begins on June 18th in Warwick, Rhode Island, and ends on June 26th in Fargo, North Dakota.

Each stop, including Binghamton, is free to the public to see the cars and visit with the participants. The last time the Great race was in the Binghamton area, was in 2011. According to the Visit Binghamton press release, these cars date back as far as 1916, and there are over 500 participants in the Great Race.

The event is not actually a speed race. It is a time/speed/distance rally. For more information about the 2022 event, visit the Great Race website.
