For a few weeks, an artist's effort to enhance the parking experience at a downtown city-owned garage greeted drivers as they entered the facility.

But the somewhat mysterious exhibit that might have served as commentary on the region's cold, dreary winter vanished in recent days.

The unusually detailed and provocative illustration seemed especially appropriate as downtown workers pulled into the State Street parking garage early on a Monday morning.

Although the artist signed the work, the name could not be deciphered by several art critics who viewed the piece during the month of March.

Some observers were impressed by the attention to detail, which set the work apart from more traditional forms of urban graffiti.

The true meaning of the illustration remained elusive... right up until the moment it disappeared.
