Teens Charged After Johnson City Residence Struck by Gunfire

Two people have been arrested following an investigation into an incident in which shots were fired at an occupied home in Johnson City.

Authorities say a residence near Grand Avenue and Harrison Street was struck by gunfire around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Police officers found a live 9mm round of ammunition near the scene. Detectives recovered a bullet that was fired into the house. They also found three shell casing nearby.

Investigators don't believe anyone was struck by gunfire. They determined the suspect was a 16-year-old boy.

On Wednesday, detectives spotted the youth and 18-year-old Qualyn Terry leave a St. Charles Street residence. The two ran from police but they were taken into custody a short time later.

Investigators say a Taurus semi-automatic 9mm pistol and a .40 caliber defaced pistol discarded as the teenagers were running have been recovered.

Detectives later searched the boy's residence and confiscated clothing he was believed to have worn at the time of Sunday's shooting.

The boy has been charged with reckless endangerment and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Terry has been charged with two weapon possession counts.

The boy was arraigned and ordered held in a juvenile facility. Terry was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
