Teen Chaos at Vacant Binghamton West Side Residence
Binghamton police officers and firefighters were called to an abandoned duplex on the West Side after a neighbor spotted several people apparently trespassing at the home.
The fire department was sent to 144 Crestmont Road along with several police units around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
A neighbor smelled smoke and was concerned someone may have started a fire in the house or in a detached garage on the property.
Six youths - five boys and a girl - ran from the area before police arrived.
A police department canine unit was on the scene, along with police chief Joseph Zikuski. The chief was not available to comment on whether officers found any damage that may have been caused by the teenagers.
A fire department duty chief said there was no active fire when firefighters arrived at the property. The investigation was turned over to the fire marshal's office.
