Talks of Merging Roberson & Discovery Center on Indefinite Hold
Talks of forming an affiliation between the Discovery Center and Roberson Museum are on indefinite hold.
Talks had been underway for months but uncertainty surrounding the current pandemic is being cited as the official reason to pause the process. Meanwhile, there had been some public push-back to the idea of combining operations.
According to a statement issued October 15, the joint task force had been looking into Roberson and the Discovery Center children’s museum working more closely together. That did include the relocation of the Discovery Center from Morgan Road, adjacent to Ross Park Zoo on Binghamton’s South Side, to the Roberson Center campus on Front Street in Binghamton.
The statement says the discussions are on hold until such a point where attendance figures, school programs and financial projections can be assessed with greater certainty.
Both facilities are continuing to operate under COVID-19 pandemic regulations and restrictions.
