Suspects Sought in Attempted Robbery in Binghamton
Binghamton police were seeking two men in connection with an attempted armed robbery on the city's West Side.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. Wednesday in a large apartment building at 101 Murray Street.
Detective Captain John Ryan said a resident told police he was confronted by two men in a basement laundry room. One of the men was armed with a shotgun.
Ryan said the man who was targeted was able to run from the building. He went to a nearby convenience store at Main and Murray streets to seek help.
Ryan said no injuries were reported and no shots were fired in the incident.
The scene is one block west of Binghamton High School. The school was placed in "lockout" mode for a short time after the attempted robbery.
The incident happened exactly five months after police were called to the same site after a person reported hearing multiple gunshots.
In that case, those involved had fled before officers arrived.
