22-year-old Brandon Hernandez of Binghamton died after he was shot seven times at close range in what has been described as an execution-style killing.

Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said a patrol officer who was nearby when the shots rang out was on the scene moments later. CPR was performed on Hernandez but he was pronounced dead on arrival at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Hernandez was gunned down in the parking lot of an after-hours club at 56 Orton Avenue, just off Main Street.

Zikuski said city police had been aware of the operation of the club for about three months. Although there had been noise-related complaints from people leaving the place, he was not aware of any police calls pertaining to criminal activity.

The police chief said investigators believe some of those who were at the Binghamton shooting scene also had been in the area of a Johnson City bar where a man was shot about two hours earlier.

Zikuski said detectives were looking into possible links between the shootings but there initially appeared to be no connection.

Detectives have not recovered the gun used in the shooting. No description has been released of the suspect.
