A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting near a Binghamton park.

Authorities said 21-year-old Jabari Ashe of Brooklyn was charged with second-degree murder on Tuesday.

Investigators said Ashe is suspected of shooting 26-year-old Tyquan Gumbs of Binghamton on April 28. Gumbs was gunned down around 8:30 on that Friday night behind a large apartment house at 10 Fayette Street.

Binghamton detectives announced the arrest Tuesday evening. They said the New York City Police Department assisted in capturing Ashe. Investigators said the suspect was taken into custody without incident in Brooklyn.

Ashe was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail.

After Gumbs was shot, police were said to be looking for three men who had been seen running toward Columbus Park.

Detectives said the investigation into the killing is continuing. The statement did not indicate whether police had located the two other men who may have be at the scene of the shooting.

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski has said investigators believed the shooting of Gumbs and the killing of another man six days earlier outside an after-hours club on the West Side were related to gang activity.
