State Trooper Shot, Another Hurt in Tioga County, Pennsylvania

A Pennsylvania state trooper was shot at a residence in Tioga County, a short distance south of the New York state line.

Authorities say the shooting happened around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Barney Hill Road in Nelson township.

Three troopers were sent to the residence to check on the welfare of a person who had not been seen for about two weeks.

After receiving no response when they announced themselves, the troopers entered the home through an unlocked door.

Police say a gunshot was fired at the troopers and one was wounded.

The trooper who was struck was flown by helicopter to a hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition following surgery.

One of the other troopers sustained a leg injury as he scrambled to get out of the house following the gunshot. He was treated and released.

The person who fired the shot barricaded himself in the home. A state police Special Emergency Response Team was called to the scene.
