Officials with the Spencer Fire Department say the cause of a blaze that destroyed a family’s home on North Railroad Avenue after 7 p.m. December 15 has still not been determined.

The fire reportedly burned for several hours before firefighters were able to knock it down.  Two teenagers in the home that they shared with their stepfather were able to get out safely.

Authorities say the home is a total loss and will probably have to be torn down.

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
