Southern Tier to Get Millions in Opioid Settlement Money

Programs to fight opioid addiction in the Southern Tier are due to receive up to $25.5 million from different legal settlements involving manufacturers and distributors blamed for the opioid crisis.

New York Attorney General Letitia James says a total of up to $10.5 billion dollars is to be delivered to 62 counties in the state.

According to a news release from the A.G.’s office, Broome County is destined to get between $2.3 million and $4,098,000 dollars, Chenango County; between $434,152 and $758,468, Delaware County: $461,798 to $806,767, Tioga County; between $455,900 and $796,464 and Tompkins County between $989,886 and $1.7 million.

The amounts are the minimum and maximum each region can receive from settlements with Johnson & Johnson, McKesson, Cardinal Health, Amerisource Bergen and Endo.

Officials note not all funds are going to the county and the amounts also include funds going directly to a major city within a county.

All the funds collected by the state from opioid settlements or litigation victories are being allocated specifically for abatement efforts in communities devastated by the opioid epidemic and will not go to the state general fund according to the Attorney General’s news release.
