Nobody Wants the Southern Tier’s Abandoned Pizza Hut Buildings
Three empty Pizza Hut restaurant sites are haunting the Binghamton area, years after the last family-style unit in the region closed its doors.
The final traditional Pizza Hut operation in the area shut down in early 2020. That restaurant was located on East Main Street in Endicott.
That property remains on the market with an asking price of $425,000.
An abandoned Pizza Hut building on the Vestal Parkway sits alongside a shuttered Friendly's restaurant. The old Friendly's site reportedly will be home to a new Dairy Queen restaurant. No plans have been announced for the property formerly occupied by the Pizza Hut.
The two old restaurant properties are owned by the same entity that operates the Tru by Hilton hotel just west of the abandoned buildings.
A blighted former Pizza Hut site in Owego has been cited by town code enforcement officials.
A notice posted on the building ordered the owner - G.C. Pizza Hut of Mount Kisco - to correct maintenance issues at the site, including cleaning up trash and weeds on the property.
The work was to have been completed three months ago but it appears nothing has been done to clean up the property.
One Binghamton-area Pizza Hut restaurant was repurposed. The Spiedie & Rib Pit on Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango moved into the closed Pizza Hut building in 2019.
