Snow Slows Binghamton Stadium Makeover Project

The improvement project at Binghamton's baseball stadium was thrown a curveball by the massive storm that dumped nearly three feet of snow on the 25-year-old facility.

With less than three weeks until the scheduled home opener for the Rumble Ponies, plenty of work remains to be done on the $2.5 million renovation job at NYSEG Stadium.

Weather conditions have put the project behind schedule. It's unclear how much of the planned construction will be completed by April 13, when the renamed team is to make it debut in front of Binghamton fans.

On Friday, about two dozen workers were busy at the stadium on Henry Street. But some who were there in the morning were sent home because of less-than-ideal weather conditions.

Crews were continuing the task of replacing bulbs on some of the stadium's eight light poles.

The frame for a new entrance near the stadium parking lot was put into place the day after concrete for its base had been poured.

Those involved in the renovation project say they'll be working to have as much of the job as possible completed in time for opening day.

The Rumble Ponies are to start their season on the road on April 6 against the Fisher Cats in Manchester, New Hampshire. The home opener is scheduled for a week later when Binghamton hosts the Erie SeaWolves.
