Officials are investigating the cause of a house fire in the Town of Fenton that drew firefighters from four companies to the scene just before 8 p.m. April 20.

Officials say they saw flames in a second floor bedroom when they arrived at the house on State Route 369 in Port Crane.

Firefighters say residents were alerted to the blaze by a smoke detector and everyone got out of the home safely. Authorities say if the family did not have working smoke alarms, the outcome could have been very different and possibly tragic since one person was asleep upstairs when the fire broke out.

While the investigation is continuing, officials say they believe the fire was the result of an electrical problem.
