
Former Congressman Sherwood Boehlert Dies at 84
Sherwood Boehlert, who served in the House of Representatives for nearly a quarter-century, has died. He was 84.
Boehlert had been the county executive for Oneida County before he was elected to Congress in 1982.
During the years he represented central New York, Boehlert was regarded as a moderate Republican. He had a special interest in science and in environmental issues.
As chairman of the House science committee, Boehlert traveled twice to the South Pole to get a first-hand look at United States research operations.
Boehlert would have turned 85 next Tuesday.
