Seven People Arrested in Prison Sex Abuse Investigation
Pennsylvania State Police have reported the arrest of seven current and former prison guards on public corruption charges.
Authorities say the arrests follow a joint investigation by the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.
According to WNEP-TV in Scranton, the investigation focused on sexual abuse and public corruption allegations at the Lackawanna County Prison.
State police say those who were taken into custody on Wednesday were being arraigned in Lackawanna County.
Last September, WNEP reported investigators with sealed search warrants showed up at the prison. They seized boxes and files from the facility.
Agents also confiscated computer hard drives and other potential evidence from Lackawanna County government offices.
Investigations reportedly have focused not only on allegations of misconduct at the county prison but also possible coverup efforts.
