Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]New York State Senator Fred Akshar says, while he supports Natural Gas development in the state, he is asking a company that wants to develop a compressed natural gas trucking terminal and filling station in the Town of Fenton to look for another site.

The Broome County Republican says his conversations with both sides of the issue, and even a tour of the NG Advantage operation in Vermont has led him to believe the site on West Service Road is not a good fit.  In a statement, Akshar says, “I support natural gas expansion and I support businesses getting the affordable energy they need, but a bad location is a bad location.”

Akshar says other communities in the 52nd District would be ready to welcome the project.

The Senator says his job is to listen to concerns and is not to “strong-arm local or state agencies toward specific outcomes.”

The construction on the compressor station is was put on temporarily on hold as a Supreme Court Judge reviewed the language of NG’s paperwork for the development.

Residents had objected that the project is too close to a residential neighborhood, along a busy school bus route and close to a community park in Port Dickinson.
