The fundraiser helps support social service programs year-round. Those services include hunger relief through food pantries and soup kitchens, shelter and housing programs, youth services, camp, music lessons and character-building programs.
The Salvation Army Empire State Division said donations at the kettles for the first week of bell ringing were lagging. All donations received in the kettles stay in the communities where the contributions are made.
Volunteer bell ringers are also still needed. To sign up visit: http://bir.ly/beabellringer.
