Red Carpet Inn Site to Be Used for Golf Tournament Staging Area
This story has been updated to clarify that although the West Main Street property will be used during the upcoming golf tournament, no public parking will be available at the site.
The former Red Carpet Inn site will be used as a staging area for this month's Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott.
The Broome County Land Bank Corporation last month approved a resolution authorizing the use of the property for the purposes of parking from June 17 to June 23.
The 1.5-acre parcel was acquired by the agency from a New Jersey man last February for $600,000. The derelict building was torn down last month by Gorick Construction.
All of the demolition debris was hauled away from the site and the property has been completely cleared.
Although the Land Bank resolution specified the site would be used for parking, tournament director John Karedes told WNBF News that the property will be utilized for event staging purposes.
Karedes said buses and tour vehicles associated with the Luke Bryan concert will use the site which is directly across the street from En Joie Golf Club.
The former motel property also will be used for other support purposes for the tournament. Karedes said there will be no public parking on the site for the event.
The rundown motel had become an eyesore for people who lived nearby and for those who attend the annual golf tournament.
A long-term use for the old motel property has yet to be determined. The county plans to seek requests for proposals to redevelop the site.
